Dear Sam
It was nice talking to you and hope that this is the beginning of good things to come. It was even nicer to hear that you know the other guys I am working with, i.e Alan, Murehwa, Manatse. I would like to introduce Mike Chalk, who lives there in Adelaide. Mike has done some wonderful work pushing the project in Adelaide and has made some significant progress with the groundwork. Unfortunately, Mike has a holiday in Europe in the next few weeks and would like to ask you to work with him so that you can continue to push this . Mike is a friend of a dear brother of mine I work with.
The project is organising and doing a sponsored walk. The Australian Red Cross launched the Zimbabwe Crisis Appeal 2009 http://www.redcross.org.au/ourservices_aroundtheworld_emergencyrelief_Zimbabwe-appeal.htm with the money raised going to the Zimbabwe Red Cross to help fight the scourges that’s befalling our country. We decided to support this appeal by doing a sponsored walk primarily in Melbourne and invite other cities to join us to raise the awareness of this appeal and to raise funds as well. The sponsored walk involves finding people to participate, finding a route to walk, and participants asking their family, friends and colleagues to sponsor them for participating in the walk. We can also try finding bigger or corporate sponsors.
At the moment, in Melbourne we have found a route in the city and are applying for a permit from the council to hold the event in the city. We have also started an online fundraising page, Mike is already a team member, where people can donate using credit cards. http://www.everydayhero.com.au/zim_crisis
We will soon arrange for some forms so that people can donate in cash. These methods all require to ask people to donate to you. I would like to invite you to join this team. The team password is Z1m60z
Please get in touch with Mike so he can update you on the progress he has made and how you can help. Can you also please ask the Zimbabwean Community there to get behind this for it to succeed. Please find other like minded people and make this happen.
